SOS Radio Week encourages as many people, clubs and friends as possible to get on the air during May. The aim is to promote the invaluable and courageous work of the volunteer crews of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) and other local independent lifeboat crews, together with the volunteer watch keepers of the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) around the coasts of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

Whilst SOS Radio Week was initially founded to raise awareness of the work of the RNLI, many of us (myself included) often forget that if it wasn’t for the watch keepers of the NCI many incidents would go unreported and the RNLI/independent lifeboat crews would not be able to save as many lives as they do. They all work together to operate such a well run and integrated service – amazing when you think that they’re all volunteers and give up their time to save others in danger.

Please do continue to support and promote the work of these real-life heroes and register to take part in SOS Radio Week.
