The figures are in and it’s official; 2024 was the fourth busiest year for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
The statistics show that lifeboats launched 9,141 times, helping 17,068 people out of dangerous situations. 352 lives were saved who might have otherwise perished without the assistance of the brave crews, almost one per day.
The crews of the RNLI are, in the main, volunteers. They are ready to put to sea in the worst possible conditions around the coasts of the England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands twenty-four hours a day, 365/6 days a year.
This is why our amateur radio stations operate during the month of May; to raise awareness of this amazing charity – along with the work of the volunteers of the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI), independent lifeboats and other volunteer rescue services around our coasts.
