The Porthmadog & District Amateur Radio Society (PADARS) ran a special event station (GB1PLB) during the second weekend of SOS Radio Week 2010 from the Porthmadog Yacht Club. Their efforts resulted in £270 being raised for the Criccieth lifeboat station, which was presented at their March meeting.

Bob (MW0RHD) organised the event and a good number of the members assisted, including some of their newly licensed opertaors which was great to see. Visitors to the special event station on the Sunday were Derek (G7LFC) and David (M3LFC), the SOS Radio Week founders.

The Criccieth lifeboat station was approached a short while after the presentation about the Amateur Radio club and lifeboat station working closer together and this has resulted in the club being asked to run a special event station during Criccieth lifeboat’s open day on the 15th August. Plans are now well underway for the event.

The Porthmadog and District Amateur Radio Society has committed to next year’s event and news about their plans will be posted here when we hear more.
