About our awards

We are pleased to announce that we will be issuing awards to those Amateur Radio stations around the world that contact our official SOS Radio Week stations.

Worked SOS Radio Week Stations Award

A commemorative certificate will be awarded to all Amateur Radio Stations that work at least one SOS Radio Week station using terrestial modes.

Work three SOS Radio Week stations and you will receive a Bronze certificate using terrestial modes.

Work six SOS Radio Week stations to receive a Silver certificate using terrestial modes.

A Gold certificate will be issued to you for working ten SOS Radio Week stations using terrestial modes.

A Platinum certificate will be issued for working fifteen SOS Radio Week stations using terrestial modes.

An Internet award will be issued for working any number of SOS Radio Week stations over the Internet using the likes of D-Star, IRLP and EchoLink.

Which SOS Radio Week stations count towards the award?

We have produced a definitive list of stations that can be worked. They can be found on our Stations page.

When will SOS Radio Week stations be on the air?

Please refer to the SOS Radio Week Status Monitor for this information. The stations will update this themselves for your information.

How many certificates can I claim?

Only one, so make sure you claim the highest level you are entitled to.

Can SOS Radio Week stations claim certificates?

Yes, if you work other SOS Radio Week stations you can put in a claim.

How much do the award certificates cost?

In order to encourage as many people to apply for the award certificates, they are completely free of charge.

What format are the certificates produced in?

To keep our costs down the certificates will be created as Adobe Acrobat documents and emailed to you. If you don’t have an email address, we can either provide you with one (free of charge), or send your certificate to a friend’s email address for you.

To be able to view/print the certificates you will need a copy of Adobe Reader installed on your computer. This application can be obtained free of charge from the Adobe web site.

How do I claim my award?

You can do this electronically, or by post.

To submit your application electronically, scan your logbook and save it as a PDF file. This can be done by pasting the scanned images in to a Microsoft Word or Open Office document and saving the document as a PDF file. Alternatively, we can accept multiple page JPG and PNG files. Fill in the application form and attach your log sheets.

To apply for your award through the post, send us copies of your logbook, together with the award you are applying for and the email address you would like us to send your award certificate to. The address to send your applications to is;

John Martin
Pen Y Bryn
Llwyn Ynn

Please note that if you do not send us a photocopy of the entries in your logbook then we will be unable to issue you with a certificate.

When will certificates be issued?

You can apply for your award as soon as the event is finished. However, with everything that has to be done with regards to the collection of monies raised, please don’t contact us before the end of March is you are yet to receive your certificate.
