National Coastwatch Institution

2019 sees SOS Radio Week extend its support of volunteer lifesavers to include the Watchkeepers of the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI).

Formed after two fishermen lost their lives off the coast of Cornwall in sight of a recently closed Coastguard lookout, the NCI now managed more than fifty stations around the coast of the UK.

Equipped with the latest radar and telecommunications equipment, these stations also provide vital eyes that can observe disasters unfolding that such technology simply cannot.

All of the stations are funded entirely from voluntary donations and any money raised by official SOS Radio Week stations will be most welcome in these challenging times of cuts and reduced giving to charities.
